Deval's Stance on Immigration and other Issues
Deval’s Stance on Immigration (10/5/06)
General
Illegal immigration is called "illegal" because it is.
The best and most comprehensive solutions will be found at the federal level and that is why McCain/Kennedy legislation is so important. This was a balanced approach between greater border protection with sanctions and a path to citizenship for those already here.
In-State Tuition
This proposal would allow all Massachusetts high school students to have the opportunity to pay in-state tuition and to attend our public colleges and universities.
According to the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, the state's public colleges stand to gain an estimated $2.5 million in new revenue if these students were allowed to attend these schools at in-state rates.
This proposal also requires that students attended Massachusetts public schools for at least 3 years.
Driver Licenses
All drivers should know the rules the road and have the legally-required insurance - it's a matter of public safety.
Identification is an important element of knowing who is on our roads and where they live. This is a matter of national security.
